Production gundrills cover from roughly 0.5 mm to 75 mm in diameter, with standard metric and imperial size steps. Small diameters (below 5 mm) are the domain of a few specialists, which matters when selecting a supplier.
Solid carbide (or carbide-tipped) gundrills are the standard for precision small-bore work and are re-ground rather than re-inserted. Indexable insert gundrills swap inserts at the machine and suit larger diameters and higher volumes. Ask the supplier which is economical for your diameter, depth and quantity.
